Preparedness  Resources for Utah Area Stakes and Wards

Memorandum

Date Sept. 9, 2026
To Utah Area Stake Presidencies and Bishops
Distribution Executive secretaries for inclusion on the next stake/ward council agenda

From Utah Area Presidency
Subject Emergency Preparedness

Preparedness Resources for Utah Area Stakes and Wards

The Lord has long taught His people the importance of preparation. His counsel to “prepare
every needful thing” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:119) invites us to act with faith and wisdom as
we care for ourselves, our families, and those around us.
Unexpected challenges are a part of life. While we cannot anticipate every circumstance,
thoughtful spiritual and temporal preparation can bring greater peace and confidence. As the
Lord has taught, “if ye are prepared ye shall not fear” (Doctrine and Covenants 38:30).
We invite stake presidencies and bishoprics to consider how principles of preparedness might
be strengthened among the members in their care. This should include wise financial practices,
appropriate food and water storage, emergency planning, emotional resilience, and other efforts
that help individuals and families become more self-reliant and better able to assist others. We
encourage you to review the stake and ward preparedness resources below which provide
guidance on how to create a preparedness plan and further evaluate the effectiveness of that plan
on an ongoing basis.
Our hope is not to create an additional program or to convey that we are in imminent need of
this focus but to encourage thoughtful, ongoing preparation as we follow the Lord’s counsel and
care for one another.
We are grateful for your inspired leadership and devoted service throughout the Utah Area.
With love and appreciation,
The Utah Area Presidency
